London City Photos
The City of London is a small area within Greater London, United Kingdom. It is the historic core of London around which the modern metropolitan area grew. The City’s boundaries have remained almost unchanged since the Middle Ages, and it is now only a tiny part of the metropolis of London, though remains a notable part of central London. It is often referred to as the City or the Square Mile, as it is just over one square mile in area and is today a major business and financial centre.
A number of tall buildings and skyscrapers exist in the London City and we have got some London City images portraying its skyline, but photographing skyscrapers is difficult. The key to attain good images of skyscrapers is to understand what geometrical distortion and perspective is and to find the best time to capture a skyscraper at its most glamorous moment as different light brings out different moods in a building.
Lines running parallel to each other tend to converge at a certain distance and we are not usually aware of this geometrical distortion when we look at buildings in real life. Unfortunately our eyes see convergence as less normal in a photograph taken looking up at a building where vertical lines lean toward each other and it simply looks wrong. This can be seen on some London City pictures on this website.
If you do this in an exaggerated way, you can achieve attention-grabbing and unexpected results which some of our London photos show, but you usually want to avoid this effect and there are a number of ways how to do it.
